The way the venue is set up with the beautiful north facing doors out to the lawn with the view over the harbour was really similar to the relaxed vibe at Rawhiti. As soon as they showed us all the games our guests could play during the day we knew it was the perfect spot for us – we are all about banter inducing activities!

We had a lot of guests coming from overseas, so it came to the venue, we really wanted a place that would showcase NZ’s beauty at its best. Kauri Bay Boomrock was the only place we ever considered – thanks to its spectacular views, rolling green hills and of course, lots of sheep!

Our wedding was on the most beautiful winter’s day and we were able to have our ceremony outdoors, which meant our guests could enjoy the incredible view from Kauri Bay. We wanted to emulate a cosy, family-style dinner party as opposed to a formal three-course meal, so we had three long tables and no formal bridal table.

Our wedding styling was clean and simple. I wanted white and green throughout. Everything turned out perfectly, from the flora to the cake. Some of my favourite details were the white chairs and bar. In keeping with Māori tradition, we gifted each of the groomsmen a pounamu (greenstone) ring which we had blessed. James wore a beautiful pounamu around his neck, which was given to him by his 91 year old koro (grandfather), who blessed our wedding rings before we put them on.

The venue was always something we really wanted to invest in. Kauri Bay Boomrock was the perfect mix of both Tamehana and I. It is set on farmland which ties back to my upbringing on a farm and overlooks the Hauraki Gulf which holds a special place for Tamehana. I had been lucky enough to work with Ollie and the team at Kauri Bay Boomrock prior to our wedding and so I knew that we would be in the very best hands, and everyone would love the setting, food, and service.

We wanted an understated elegant wedding that would be timeless. We brought this to life with a formal dress code and beautiful styling. We had the most beautiful statement lighting from Vintage & Style, furniture from LL Hire and styling and florals by Leaf & Honey. Naomi from Leaf & Honey created the dreamiest gypsophila arch for us that was against the stunning side wall of Kauri Bay Boomrock, creating a modern, clean look for the ceremony.
